'Lock the Loop' logo identifies sustainable municipalities and businesses

Compost manufacturer introduces new program to recognize customers who practice full-loop recycling by not only diverting biodegradable wastes to composting, but also buying the products manufactured from those recycled residuals and by-products.

Oct. 14, 2012 - PRLog -- McGill Environmental Systems has announced the launch of "Lock the Loop," a new marketing logo program for customers who not only contract with the company for biodegradable waste recycling, but also use the compost products manufactured from those same by-products and residuals to establish a true, sustainable system for recycling and reuse.

"In a modern society, the ideal of waste generation, recycling and reuse all happening at the same site is no longer a practical consideration for most," explains Gary Gittere, McGill product sales and marketing manager. "As a result, it's important for companies and communities to consider both sides of the recycling loop when looking at sustainability.  Diversion programs without reuse of the recycled products manufactured from those wastes won't close the loop.  Green purchasing without waste diversion doesn't make a full circle, either.  True sustainability requires both."

Collecting, separating and moving waste to processing centers,  coupled with the use of the products manufactured from those materials, demonstrates a strong commitment to sustainable waste management.  The new logo will be used to recognize McGill customers who go that extra mile and assume responsibility for both the recycling and reuse of their by-products and residuals.

Entities authorized to use the "Lock the Loop" logo, designed for McGill by SkyBound Designs of Raleigh, must meet the definition of at least one of the following categories:

● A McGill organics recycling customer who also purchases McGill compost products for  landscaping, employee/resident giveaway programs or other approved uses.

● A retail lawn and garden center, landscape contractor or other compost reseller located in a municipality using McGill as its organics recycling contractor.

● A compost customer who is also an individual or business served by a third-party collection service using McGill for food waste or other organics recycling.

"Expanding the use of compost products grows markets for compost manufacturers and makes recycling a cost-effective choice for more waste generators," notes Gittere.  "Allowing market forces to pull organics from landfills and incinerators is always preferable to mandates, and the 'Lock the Loop' logo will help customers identify and support the businesses and municipalities that are making the effort to ensure full-loop sustainability for those companies and communities."
