The Twelve Atlantic Station Hotel Hosts the Miss Black Collegiate USA Scholarship Pageant Weekend

PRLog (Press Release) - Oct. 13, 2012 - The Miss Black Collegiate USA Scholarship Pageant™ Weekend will take place from Friday, October 26 until Sunday, October 28, 2012.  All events will take place at the Twelve Atlantic Station Hotel located at 361 17th St NW Atlanta, GA 30363. The Pageant weekend will kick off with a Launch Party the evening of Friday, October 26, 2012. The Crowning Ceremony will take place on Saturday, October 27, 2012. The Purple Carpet will start at 5pm with the VIP reception immediately following. On Sunday, October 28, 2012 there will be a post press brunch which begins at 10am.

The Miss Black Collegiate USA Scholarship Pageant ™ was founded by Ms. Darlene Aiken who also serves as its Director. The slogan, “Exposing Minds, Not Bodies!” ™ goes in line with the pageant founder/director’s mission to assist young ladies with the building of their self-esteem, while interacting with positive women of African descent, all while having fun.  There is not a bathing suit competition, as the Ms. Aiken believes that there at enough entities that expose the bodies of women and she does not want to add to the notion that this is the manner in which women, particularly women of African descent, need to progress in life.  “We have so much more to offer, as women. We are intelligent beings and as the birthing canal from which all life form flows, it is incumbent upon us as women to possess a positive self-esteem so that we may raise children to follow suit.  Additionally, when we lack self-esteem, we relinquish our power to make positive strides on a community level, thus a global level” say, Ms. Aiken

This inaugural event boasts of world renowned sponsors such as Iman Cosmetics, Macys Bridal Salon for Demetrios, R. J. Graziano Jewelers, African American Artist, Curtis James, and others.  The Contestants hail from as far as California, Michigan, Texas, and other parts of the country. They are pursuing career goals such as lawyer, engineers and a wealth of professions.

Ms. Aiken is not new to the world of pageantry.  She is not only a former pageant girl, but is an adjunct college lecturer, author, self-esteem expert, professional speaker, and pageant coach.  She holds and has held key positions in various community and faith-based organizations as well as have worked with a wealth of civil rights organizations.  She is also the president/CEO of a company that she founded over a decade ago, Inner Beauty Solutions, Inc. which she has successfully empowered girls in low-income areas who educators and others had given up on.  Those young ladies have now graduated and /or are attending  institutions such as Morgan State University, John Jay University, and Northeastern University,  to name a few. These same young ladies also have GPA of  3.0 or higher.
