Oct. 15, 2012 - PRLog -- Chicago, IL – October 15, 2012 – Janet and Laura Greenwald are taking their latest book door to door to every home in America – well a million of them anyway.

The writing team is on a mission to make one million families safer, one book at a time.  How?  They are donating a copy of their latest book, “Get Your Stuff Together” to families across America.  The downloadable PDF copies, which normally retail for $24.99, are available via a special link on their web site http://www.getyourstufftogether.com/giveaway.htm through the end of the year.

Why?  “It’s simple,” says Janet.  “We know what it’s like to have a firefighter knock on our door in the middle of a perfectly normal day and tell us that we have ten minutes to grab everything we need and evacuate.  When we saw the footage of the recent fires in Colorado and Hurricane Isaac in New Orleans – especially the look on the people’s faces, we knew that we had to do something to help.”

The duo, one of the only mother and daughter writing teams in the entertainment industry, are the creators of Ready In 10, the only downloadable disaster readiness system in existence. They developed it to share the knowledge and tools that they learned after a few “interesting” life experiences including the time a jumbo jet crashed across the street from their home, an ill-fated medical emergency and well, growing up in Southern California.

“The chaos of that moment is overwhelming,” adds Laura.  “And no one knows that better than the people who had to evacuate New Orleans and Mississippi before Hurricane Isaac struck. The moment that knock comes or hurricane nears, the stress and the questions take over.  What should I take, where will I go and if the worst happens, how will I go on?  Answering those questions and calming that chaos is one of the things that our book does extremely well.”

“Get Your Stuff Together” takes the knowledge readers gained in “Ready In 10”, and kicks it up a notch, with simple steps that families can take right now, to make specific types of items safe and secure. Whether the danger comes from large scale natural disasters or a simple computer meltdown, readers will learn how to keep everything that’s important to them, safe, sound and accessible.

And that’s the reason the Greenwalds decided to donate copies of their book to families across America.  Loss.  “The message of our book is that the best way to prevent loss, is to avoid it,” says Janet. “The one thing every human being has in common is how hard we work to make our homes into little sanctuaries filled with the things that we treasure.”

“When you put that together with all of the things that we need to keep on living the lives we’re accustomed to,” says Laura, “like vital information, data and documents, people have a lot of things that can easily be protected from loss.  It’s just a matter of having the tools at their fingertips to do it.”  Adds Janet, “We want to share what we’ve learned to help the people affected by recent disasters recover, and to give those who had a close call the tools they need, to know that whatever happens in the future, they and the people they love will be all right.”

About Janet and Laura Greenwald:
Janet and Laura Greenwald, are one of the only mother and daughter screenwriting teams in the entertainment industry.  They are authors of “Ready In 10,” creators of the Ready In 10 downloadable Get Ready Kit and writers of original series including “Capitol Hill” and screenplays including "Without Consent," based on Janet’s mother’s ill-fated hospitalization.   The Greenwald’s were introduced to disaster preparedness the hard way, when a jumbo-jet crashed across the street from our home.  After a few floods, earthquakes and a horrendous medical catastrophe that took the life of their mother/grandmother Elaine Sullivan, they created three health care laws in California & Illinois, founded the Next of Kin Education Project and created Notify In 7, a nationally recognized next of kin training program for hospitals.  They decided to use the knowledge and tools they had gained from their experiences, to teach families how to be ready to deal with any disaster or emergency in 10 minutes or less.
