PRLog - Oct. 12, 2012 - This year’s Bully Bash will take place at Fox Valley Kickers in Oswego, IL on October 14, 2012. The event will begin at 11:00 a.m. and conclude at 5:00 p.m.
In recent years, as many as 300 English bulldogs and their families have turned out from all around the Midwest for this event. It is the largest fundraiser that the Chicago English Bulldog Rescue holds each year. The volunteers and rescue dogs depend on revenue fromthis event to pay for the medical expenses and care for the 90-100 dogs the group rescues each year.
The event will feature a Howl-o-Ween Costume Contest with bulldogs dressed from spooky to silly. In addition there will be a Bulldog Agility Course, which is a sight to be seen! The highlight of the day is a Rescue Parade featuring dozens of rescued bulldogsproudly marching across the stage while their individual stories are narrated to the crowd.
Other activities include: a Bully Bake Sale, Bully Spa, silent auction, entertainment from the 101.9 the MIX, lunch from 11:30-2pm, and a cash bar from 11am – 4pm.
The rescue averages $800in medical expenses for each bulldog they take in. Every CEBR rescued bulldogundergoes a complete veterinary examination including vaccinations and is spayed and/or neutered tohelp control the overpopulation of unwanted pets and pets used for dog-fighting purposes. Eachbulldog is evaluated for temperament to determine the type of family he/she would best fit into. Theyare then placed in their new ‘forever’ home and provided life-long support from the CEBRorganization.
According to Amy Pilafas, a CEBR volunteer, “We are dedicated to finding new homes for every English Bulldog that needs us and have a waiting list of families that want to help out and rescuea needy dog. That’s why we’re hosting this fundraiser, to help us help these rescue dogs.”
English Bulldogs are placed into CEBR’s care for a number of reasons, most commonly: health issuesor aging of the dog or owner, family changes including new babies and divorce, improper care leadingto behavioral issues, and sadly, emotional and physical neglect. Many people purchase bulldogs notrealizing how expensive, time consuming, and attention-loving they can be.
