What is Your Traffic Telling You?

Your traffic is telling you something. What is it telling you? How many visitors do you have? Where are your visitors coming from? How long do they stay on your pages and site?

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release) - Oct. 12, 2012 - Without the proper monitoring and analysis of your website activity, you will not have the information needed to continuously improve your website.  The purpose of opt in forms and exit surveys and the like is to see what the readers are doing and how they are thinking.  You are able to customize your site accordingly to get the most out of your visitors.
As a webmaster your traffic tools are very important to you.  You should monitor and analyze your traffic for the same purpose as previously stated.  These tools will assist in your analysis by showing you the behavior and trends of your visitors which will help you to build and customize as site that will generate the most revenue.  The areas you will want to focus on are below.
•   Traffic
Knowing the amount of traffic directed to your site is vital.  However, it’s not enough just to know how many visitors you are getting.  You need to know where they are coming from.  Which of the third party referral platforms are sending specific visitors?  I noticed that when I wrote articles that included other bloggers and their sites, I would get more traffic from Facebook and Twitter because they would share the article with their following.  That is very helpful information for me.  I know that I should be writing one or two articles a week that feature other related bloggers with big social followings.
•   Searches
You should monitor your reader’s searches.  In your analytics tool there is a place where you can see the search terms your readers are using to get to your site.  You are able to see what the readers are looking for and you can write more content related articles with those keywords.  This will definitely bring you more traffic than before.
•   Page views
Page views are so important to keep an eye on.  You are able to see where one visitor navigates to.  It’s great because you can see them go from one page to another and to another.  You can see their behavior and see where you should be tweaking your pages.  If you see that a visitor is just going to one page and only stays on for a few seconds, then there is much work to be done to get them to stay longer and navigate through more pages.
•   Store or Resource Center
It’s good to know if you people are visiting your store and buying or not.  If they are visiting and not buying; why are they not buying?  Is your shopping experience easy and uncomplicated or difficult and frustrating?  If it is the latter, then you need to make some quick changes.  Ensure the customer’s shopping experience is a one or two click process, no more.
•   Website performance
How long does it take to download?  After you delete your cache and test your pages, is it still slow?  You should realize that people are not patience enough to stay on a page that takes 30 seconds to download.  It’s not logical.  They will just get right off your site and go to another.  So make sure your performance is quick.  It may be that the traffic  that you are getting that are only staying on one page is due to slow website performance.  Do whatever necessary to ensure it is as quick as possible.
Keep your eyes on these areas to ensure your readers get the most out of their experience on your site.  Make sure you are having fun as well.  You accomplish more and are more effective when you are enjoying yourself.   Keep up the good work.
