According to Sales and Marketing Director Monique Welch "People are using the app! Not just looking at it and putting it down but picking it up and engaging with it for at least 10 minutes. We have a return user rate of 80.5%! Our engagement statistics are way higher than most websites, yet we work offline and give users all the information they want like where to shop, what to do and what's happening on the island, it could be tonight, next week or next month! On top of that, the information is free and gives them GPS mapping to their destinations. Why would someone not use it?"
What is a great tool for locals and visitors is also an excellent way for brands and local businesses to gain great exposure. Their featured ad placements are tasteful, not spam-like. The iLandGuide brand prides itself on being fun, tasteful and non intrusive and this is why their engagement rate is so high. The app is good for brands because it positions them as the "product of choice" on the island.
However, the app is not only effective for big brands but for small businesses. Welch says "Small businesses often cannot afford the rent in popular areas like the Sunset Crest or Hastings but they do have great services to offer. The iLandGuide Barbados app is available for download in the Google Play market and in the iTunes App Store. The app will be formally launched November 1st and boasts of more than 230 points of interest (so far!)
