The jazz legend has put pen to paper for the first time in over 10 years to compose this new suite.
The quartet will be accompanied by his 21 year old grandson, Ben Tracey, as narrator.
Stan Tracey said “I've always had a particular fondness for Dylan Thomas' short story ‘A Child's Christmas in Wales’ because it evokes so many memories of when I was a child.
“I hope the music reflects some of the pleasure it gave me.'
Swansea Council has organised the annual 15th annual Dylan Thomas Festival which has become one of the major event in the literary calendar.
Cllr Nick Bradley, Swansea Council’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration, said: “We’re delighted to secure a name of Stan Tracey’s calibre for the 2012 Dylan Thomas Festival. This event will definitely appeal to fans of both jazz music and Dylan’s rich collection of works.
“The festival will help start the build-up to the centenary of Dylan’s birth in 2014 when a series of exciting events are being planned to celebrate his life.”
