Oct. 12, 2012 - PRLog -- Justicia Investigations, a national detective agency focusing on crime in the workplace marks two decades of successful operation this year. As corporate crime continues to ring alarm bells in boardrooms across the country, Justicia continues to lend its expertise and innovative techniques to eradicating corporate losses through work related crime.

“Over the past 20 years, the threat of criminal activity industries have faced has moved from outside perpetrators to employees within a company. Employees are taking advantage of their inside knowledge or colluding with outsiders to commit crimes that have large ramifications for companies, either financially or to their brand image,”says Reg Horne, managing director of Justicia Investigations, a reputable detective agency equipped to provide clients in the private sector with solutions to blue and white collar crime.

Justicia opened its doors 20 years ago when Reg, an SAPS detective with 14 years’ police experience, realising that corporate companies were not being adequately protected against theft, fraud and espionage. He saw a gap in the market and has spent two decades successfully protecting companies against this threat. From the early days of only enlisting undercover agents to gather intelligence, Justicia does not only have an undercover division, but successfully makes use of polygraph testing, covert electronic solutions and the experienced detectives of the forensic division.

Twelve years back, Reg had realised that the solution to internal theft was not merely investigation and apprehending the perpetrators as, time and again, the same problem would rear its ugly head within the same companies. It was then that a separate entity, Whistle Blowers was formed.

Staff Education, a Key Part of the Process

Using the adage of Michael J Comer, a leading fraud and compliance practitioner, from a survey of employees around the globe, that 25% of staff are fundamentally honest and wouldn’t ever steal, 25% will steal if given the opportunity and the balance will react according to the culture of the company, Reg insists, “It is essential that everything possible is done to ensure that the culture of a business is honest and bring its honest employees into the crime-fighting fold.” “Staff education was a key part of this process, reassuring employees of their anonymity and making them aware that by reporting dishonest colleagues, they were protecting their own jobs and the future of the company, “ he adds.

Whistleblowers - Leading, Independent Hotline Service

Today, Whistle Blowers is a leading, proudly South African, independent hotline service accredited by the Ethics Institute of South Africa and boasting an extensive global client base.

During the past decade, due to an ongoing demand from our clients to round off the services already offered, Guarding SA was established. With the experience that a large percentage of company theft is perpetrated by buying or involving a security guard, Justicia could design this security solution, as both an external measure as well as infiltrating undercover agents amongst its guard force, to prevent its own security guards from colluding with criminal elements.

The polygraph division is used extensively in this company, not only in pre-employment testing, but also in periodic testing of guards to uphold the integrity of this high risk element.

“Our high success rate is not luck,” says Reg. “It stems from our team’s dedication, experience, expertise, state of the art equipment and our professionalism - and the fact that we have a thorough understanding of both business and legislation. It is important to us to build up a relationship of mutual trust and respect with our clients, as this is when we obtain the best results.”

“Over the years we have traded mainly by word of mouth and referrals. We do not sell products – we sell solutions. We work closely with various police departments and agencies, always in the interest of obtaining the best result for our clients,” Reg says. One of the first questions when meeting with a client, is “What do you want to achieve,” Horne says. Different approaches are taken, depending on the required results.
