WHEREAS, Mrs. Bagoy become well known for creating floral bouquets for parties, weddings and funerals, and during the winters of the 1920's and 30's Mrs. Bagoy took to making paper flowers to accommodate the need for special occasion flowers in the harsh expansive of pioneer Alaskan days; and
WHEREAS, in 1940's Bagoys joined FTD, which was the same year that air freight began in Anchorage, and there were many long hours of waiting for cargo planes to pick up delicate flowers before they froze sitting on the runway, and
WHEREAS, Bagoy's original building was lost in the 1964 earthquake, and the floral shop relocated to an old garage at 7th and D, and in 1966 a new Bagoy's building was constructed at 6th and A and in 2012 Bagoy's has numerous locations across Anchorage with headquarters at locations at Dimond and New Seward Highway and midtown on Benson Boulevard; and
WHEREAS, Bagoy's is known for having year-round tulips and employees scattering
rose petals at each location front entrance, and current owners, Chanda and Randy Mines now offer interior design and home accessories at Bagoy's Florist.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Dan Sullivan, Mayor of Anchorage, Alaska do hereby recognize October 6, 2012 as
BAGOY'S 90th ANNIVERSARY
IN Anchorage and urge residents to recognize Bagoy's for their service to all of Anchorage for 90 years"
