The Increasing Need for Certified National Pharmaceutical Representatives (CNPR)

Oct. 11, 2012 - PRLog -- Last month, The unemployment numbers dropped to 7.8%, adding 114,000 new jobs to the industry.  Of these jobs, roughly 44,000 (almost 40%) of them were added to healthcare.  With these new additions coming in every month, one can properly assume that more qualified candidates will continue to be a need (including pharmaceutical sales).  

Candidates looking to break into the pharmaceutical sales can take the Certified National Pharmaceutical Representative program in order to be eligible for entry level interviews.  The CNPR program was designed to provide aspiring pharmaceutical sales vocational skills that pharmaceutical employers seek. The program provides training in clinical pharmacology, pharmaceutical selling rules, regulations, drug distribution channels, therapeutic drug classes, pharmacokinetics, etc. A pharmaceutical sales rep cannot successfully sell to physicians without having strong pharmacology/medical knowledge.

The CNPR Certification can be taken one of two ways.  Either through a college/university for students looking class settings, or online self-study directly through the National Association of Pharmaceutical Representatives.  Costs do vary, however there is financial aid available through various entities, such as unemployment, the GI Bill etc.
