Panama's Metrobus achieves substantial savings after putting GoalBus® & GoalDriver® into operation

Transporte Masivo de Panamá (MiBus) is a company with a fleet of 1,200 vehicles, directed by the Colombian business group Fanalca. For the last two years, it has operated Panama City's public transport system, which is known as Metrobus. In April 2012, MiBus decided to replace its scheduling software with the full urban transport solution offered by GOAL SYSTEMS. The company's rapid implementation of this solution, which included the integrated software tools GoalBus® and GoalDriver®, has translated into enormous savings in terms of the human resources and equipment required to comply with the committed service levels, and has also led to a substantial reduction of inefficiencies.

In just over four months, a working group made up of the MiBus scheduling team, experienced consultants from SuBus de Chile, and the GOAL SYSTEMS project team successfully put both tools into operation. Not only was this remarkable implementation speed made possible thanks to this joint team's professionalism and experience, but also magnificent results have already been obtained. Compared to the situation prior to implementation of the GOAL solution, proven savings of 8.5% have been achieved in the number of vehicles required, along with a need for 17% fewer driver shifts and an 8% reduction in non-revenue trips.

The implementation of GOAL software tools has also brought other benefits beyond just the immediate savings obtained, and these benefits will be enriched further by a second phase to create expanded functionality.
