Celebrities Continue to Eye Ibiza’s Property Market

For decades the island of Ibiza has been one of the most fashionable places in Europe to live and has attracted a steady stream of celebrity buyers. The latest is FC Barcelona’s Cesc Fabregas and Ibiza Sotheby’s International Realty knows why.

 
PRLog - Oct. 11, 2012 - CALVIá, Spain -- For decades, the Spanish island of Ibiza has been one of the most fashionable places in Europe to live and as such has attracted a steady stream of celebrity buyers.  The latest is FC Barcelona’s Cesc Fabregas and agent Ibiza Sotheby’s International Realty knows why.

Daniel Chavarria Waschke, Managing Director of the Balearics Sotheby’s International Realty offices, explains, “Ibiza is a place where famous people can live away from the prying eyes of paparazzi and join in the Bohemian lifestyle alongside everyone else.  Even the biggest household names don’t bring entourages of security to the beach clubs and restaurants but feel comfortable and safe in public.  After many holidays on the island, Fabregas has decided to put down roots and selected the conservation area of Cala Jondal as the location for his villa – he won’t have far to go to enjoy a cocktail at the infamous Blue Marlin beach club.”

Other names who have owned property in Ibiza include DJs Pete Tong and Eric Morillo, fashion designer Jil Sander, musician James Blunt, designer and model Jade Jagger, singer-songwriter Noel Gallagher and retired French footballer Zinedine Zidane.  On the west of the Island, in Cala Conta, Naomi Campbell is said to have purchased the home that fellow supermodel Elle McPherson used to rent every summer and it is here that discerning house hunters can find Ibiza’s first, and maybe last, condo resort – the eponymous Cala Conta.

Daniel continues, “The developers of Cala Conta took many years to secure a build license for their 33 villas as the area is protected natural park and has strict planning controls.  500 metres from the coastline and the wonderful Cala Conta beach, the condo resort has been popular with international clients who place high value on architectural beauty, location, privacy and security – so much so that phase one of 12 villas is completely sold out.”

With three designs to choose from, ranging from 559.78m² built area (to include four or five bedrooms, a garage, patio and a bright basement) up to a two storey four or five bedroom home with 661.91m² built area, all properties at Cala Conta share certain characteristics.  Architectural is simple, elegant and clean with straight lines, all have an interior patio garden to help organize the flow of the house and capture a slice of blue sky, whilst local Mares stone is used in the walls alongside local perfumed plants and vegetation for the gardens.  Cala Conta is also proudly environmentally friendly with rainwater collected alongside grey water to be recycled for drip irrigation and solar power combined with geothermal energy to provide hot water, heating and power the air-conditioning – the first residential development in Ibiza to do this.

Billed as one of the ten most beautiful bays in the Mediterranean, Cala Conta is small and rugged with plenty of secret nooks and hideaways for privacy and fun.  The waters are stunningly turquoise, shallow enough for children and ideal for snorkeling, and look out to the little offshore islands of S’Illa des Bosc and La Conejera – the ideal backdrop for those incredible Ibizencan sunsets.  A handful of bars and restaurants are on hand to provide seafood, cool drinks and atmospheric music.

Prices at Cala Conta start from 1.6 million euros (approx 1.3 million pounds).  The 12 homes in phase one (due for completion 2013) are all sold although there is good availability in phase two (due for completion 2014/2015).
