Citizen TV station launches Abortion: The civilised solution

London charity argues for decriminalisation of abortion and suggests that widely divergent views on when life matters can be accommodated if it is made a matter of personal choice for the women concerned and doctors who provide abortion services.

Oct. 10, 2012 - PRLog -- As MPs outdo each other with calls to cut the time limit for abortion provision, WORLDbytes, the online citizen TV station, has today launched the programme Abortion: The civilised solution featuring the most sensible arguments on abortion aired to date.
On the programme young Londoners engage in a fascinating ‘on the sofa’ discussion on abortion with Dr Ellie Lee, Director of the Centre for Parenting Culture Studies and reader in social policy at the University of Kent.
In a civilised society Dr Lee explains, we need to make it possible for everyone to act according to their needs and views.  In practice, she argues, this requires the decriminalisation of abortion and she tells us the Sarah Catt case provides a cast iron argument for that. Not everyone will agree the stage at which life matters, she points out, and not everyone on the sofa agrees with Dr Lee. Yet, her compelling insights leave us in no doubt that her approach would make it possible to cater for women’s needs and Doctor’s preferences without imposing on anyone.
Director Ceri Dingle said today: “This timely ‘on the sofa’ discussion is a must for everyone concerned with where this debate is heading. To date the media has reported the issue as though opposing views on abortion can never be accommodated. This is clearly not the case and Dr Lee refreshingly sets the record straight.  If abortion is allowed to be a matter of personal choice for the women and doctors involved, not a legal matter, not a matter for science or MP’s predilections and posturing, it is perfectly possible for everyone to maintain and act upon their own views and needs at any given time.”
