Oct. 11, 2012 - PRLog -- Shari Gherman, President and Co-Founder of the American Fine Wine Competition presented by Patriot National Insurance Group announced today the dates for the eight magnificent events that make up the prestigious 6th Annual AFWC. Created in 2006 by three winery insiders, Shari Gherman and Monty and Sara Preiser, the AFWC, an exclusive invitation only competition, showcases American-produced world-class wines to a national audience, recognizing and awarding great achievement. Twenty-four top wine industry professionals spend two days rigorously judging over 600 wines, then over 400 wine lovers are invited to celebrate the awarded wines, key sponsors and crucial charities at the AFWC Gala. "I am so thrilled about all that is new for the 6th Annual; the judging taking place at FIU and the first time we are announcing the AFWC Awards at the exclusive VIP Party. This year's AFWC Gala promises to be grander than any year prior, an evening of ultimate taste, entertainment, networking and some exciting surprises, all in celebration of our nations success." Since it’s inception the AFWC has proudly raised over half a million dollars for local and national charities and continues to contribute to vital non-profit organizations through the proceeds and donations from each event.

This series of events begin with the Press Judging in both Miami and Delray Beach, and is followed by the Kick Off Reception presented by JM Lexus, hosted at the sensational Boca Raton Resort & Club, American Fine Wine Competition itself, Award Announcements at the VIP Party, the inaugural Bloggers and Press Awards Cocktail Party, the entertaining Wine Carnival and Consumer Challenge and concludes with the exclusive AFWC Gala.

The spectacular St. Regis Bal Harbour Resort, Miami Beach, hosts the first private Press Judging, Wednesday, November 14, 2012, the second will be held at the celebrated 32 East, Delray Beach, Thursday, November 15, 2012. Hand selected press and media personnel are invited to partake in the essence of the AFWC, with this mock judging of some of the country’s finest wines. These press members will learn from Sommeliers the AFWC wine judging process through the sensory examination and evaluation of four flights of wine, a truly insightful and unforgettable experience. Proceeding the wine judging, a four course gourmet meal is served paired with the wines of the judging plus some very special wines from the 2012 AFWC.

JM Lexus presents the lavish Kick Off Reception, held at the exquisite Boca Raton Resort & Club, Boca Raton, Thursday, January 10, 2013. AFWC Sponsors, VIP guests and media are invited to celebrate as we introduce the 6th Annual AFWC participating sponsors, judges, entertainment and charities. As the judges are presented, guests will turn to the stage to witness the exciting champagne sabering, performed by the judges themselves and AFWC President, Shari Gherman. Throughout the evening guests will meet and share stories with esteemed professionals across a variety of industries that make up the 2013 judges and key sponsors while enjoying the 2012 award winning wines and a vast display of hors d’oeuvres.  

The 24 official AFWC Judges, consisting of renowned industry professionals, examine, taste and evaluate over 600 wines during the two day American Fine Wine Competition, Sunday and Monday, January 20-21, 2013 at Florida International University, North Miami Beach. Each four-member panel consists of a mix of industry professionals, including wine educators, wine writers, restaurateurs and sommeliers, using the most acclaimed wine judging techniques overseen by Chief Judge Sara Preiser. After pouring the wines in the staging area, they are brought to the judging panels in numbered glasses corresponding to bottles. During deliberation, 75 percent of the panel must agree on which wines are worthy of the esteemed 2013 AFWC Awards. In the event that 100 percent of the panel is in agreement, these extraordinary wines are awarded the outstanding, Double Gold Medal.

On Friday, February 1, 2013, after much anticipation, the 2013 AFWC Results are announced in Fort Lauderdale at an elegant VIP Party. This private, invitation only event brings together guests as they take pleasure in tasting the great American Wines from last year’s AFWC while awaiting the unveiling of the 2013 AFWC Results. This intimate VIP Party is an evening of undeniable American celebration.

South Florida Bloggers and Press Personnel gather on Tuesday, February 5, 2013 for the launch of the first annual Bloggers and Press Cocktail Party Announcing the 2013 AFWC Results, hosted by American Social, Fort Lauderdale. This patriotic establishment opens its doors in the celebration of the first public announcement of the 2013 AFWC results. Guests, after making a donation to a local charity (tbd) will sip, savor and enjoy AFWC wines along with an array of hors d’oeuvres.

The AFWC Wine Carnival and Consumer Challenge in Boca Raton, Thursday, February 21, 2013 is an exciting twist to the everyday wine tasting. This event attracts both seasoned and novice wine enthusiasts. The event is open to the public and provides a unique evening with perfectly selected wines paired with delectable cuisines from outstanding chefs, as well as creative carnival inspired wine activities including the AFWC Wine Tasting Challenge. Twelve lucky guests will win a place at the AFWC Challenge Table where they will be put to the test to identify 10 glasses of wine. The victorious contestant with the most correct answers will win two tickets to the 2013 AFWC Gala, a $600 value.

On Thursday, April 4, 2013, The Boca Raton Resort & Club welcomes guests to the AFWC Gala in a celebration of the nation’s finest wines while raising awareness and funds for the Diabetes Research Institute. The evening commences with the glamorous signature “Sparkling Reception” featuring the sparkling and white wines from this year’s competition. As guests proceed to their tables through the vineyard inspired setting they are greeted by personal Wine Angels. While enjoying an elaborate five courses of hand crafted cuisine by local celebrity chefs, Wine Angels pour over 600 wines, providing guests with the unforgettable experience of tasting the country’s finest wines. While tasting the wines, guests are known to discover new favorites along with newfound knowledge from Sommeliers, Judges and other industry professionals at their table.  The evening also hosts the charitable Wine and Cork Auction, where guests can bid on wines signed by the winemakers themselves. Live entertainment by American/European sensation Hilary Kole, sets the tone for this magical evening and continues through the night as guests take to the dance floor, mingle with friends both old and new while toasting their enjoyment at the 6th Annual AFWC Gala.
