Oct. 9, 2012 - PRLog -- Modeling is one of the most competitive professions around today. The best way to jumpstart your modeling career is to start building a portfolio. Look at Glamour Shots reviews for tips on getting professional photos.

Understanding the model industry and where you might fit in is an important early step. In today’s fashion-crazy world, there are several ways to get into modeling. The classic model is the tall, thin, runway model. Most runway models are 5’9” tall and wear a size 0 through 6. Lots of people also get print work for advertisements and catalogues, and those don’t usually have a height requirement. The main characteristics you need are to be photogenic and able to work long days.

Your portfolio should contain sample pictures of the type of modeling you want to do. It serves as your resume to show prospective clients or agents, so work with several professional photographers who can create top quality photos as described on Glamour Shots reviews.  Having different poses and looks within your portfolio shows your versatility and gives a prospective client a range of the types of photos they could use you in.

Start looking for modeling opportunities in your area or in cities nearby.  If you are in school, see if they have a clothing design department or club and volunteer to organize and perform in a fashion show.  If you are in a large city, look online for model castings and go for it. You can find unpaid gigs that will give you experience and help build confidence. Everyone who has made it in the modeling world started with going to castings where they didn’t know what they were doing, but learned along the way.

Many major cities have some sort of modeling classes, possibly through a community college or an agency. Just like anything else, it’s easier to learn modeling from someone who has done it, and classes are a great way to find those experienced people. Research any agencies you are considering – look at reviews and find other people who have used them to find out what they provide. Be wary of anyone asking for high fees to get started – paying them money doesn’t guarantee they can get you work.  Some agencies will offer a portfolio, but the costs are not always worth what you get. Again, Glamour Shots reviews (http://www.glamourshots-reviews.com/)can provide insight into the world of photography and photographers.

With unpaid modeling gigs, you get experience, and you get a feel for what a modeling life would be like. If you decide this is the industry for you, you might want to move to Los Angeles or New York to really get your career going.
