PRLog - Oct. 9, 2012 - Artists, musicians, dancers and vendors are gearing up for the 36th Annual Huffhines Art Trails Festival, a free, fun event designed for the whole family. The Huffhines Art Trails Festival will be held from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Oct. 27-28, rain or shine. The event features a wide variety of visual and performing arts, food and drinks, and children’s activities, including a built-in playground, hay bale maze and scavenger hunt called the “Huffhines Hunt,”  which winds its way through the park’s beautiful trails.

The festival will be held in Huffhines Park at 1500 Apollo Road in Richardson, near Fire Station #4, and admission and parking are free. Huffhines Park encompasses nearly 55 acres of breathtaking hiking/biking trails, two lakes, picnic and playground equipment and more. It’s the ideal setting for family, photos and creativity. Live music will be performed on the Front Porch Stage and a dance floor is available for anyone who wants to move to the beat. Additional live entertainment will be provided by local musicians and performing arts groups in the Café Huffhines Courtyard.

“We expect more than 150 artisans and craftsmen to show their work during the festival, and some will provide public demonstrations, weaving and sculpting. It’s the perfect place to find that one-of-a-kind gift for family, friends or yourself,” said Suzanne Etman, community events manager for the City of Richardson.

Artwork will be available for purchase in various mediums – oil painting, acrylic, photography, woodwork, pottery, glass, jewelry, metal work, leather and more. A wide selection of festival foods, beer and wine also will be available for purchase. Among them will be sliders, Philly cheese steak sandwiches, fried pies, frozen yogurt pops, funnel cakes, soft pretzels, roasted nuts and fried bologna sandwiches. In addition, WFAA-TV Channel 8 personalities Colleen Coyle, meteorologist, and Monika Diaz, senior reporter, will be in attendance as part of the broadcaster’s Family First program. Each year, the program includes four distinct, North Texas-based “Day in the Community” events, plus one at the Dallas Zoo, and televised vignettes featuring WFAA’s on-air personalities and topics that are relevant to today’s families. As part of the program, Coyle and Diaz will sign autographs and greet attendees at the Huffhines Art Trails Festival on Saturday, Oct. 27.

“The Huffhines Art Trails Festival is a great place to spend some fun, quality family-time. That’s why Family First is involved with the event. We want to help introduce our audience to the festival and its artists and other participants. Also, last year’s WFAA talent really enjoyed being able to visit with people in and around Richardson,” said Cheryl McCallister, Family First producer. For the past 20 years or so, WFAA’s Family First program has provided news-driven, community-focused broadcast and internet content, as well as family-friendly event information to help North Texas families live stronger, safer and healthier lives. The Huffhines Art Trails Festival was created by the City of Richardson to provide local artists and craftsmen a venue to promote and sell their work. Today it is one of the premiere arts and crafts shows in North Texas. For more information, visit www.huffhinesarttrails.com or call 972-744-4580.
