The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends an annual flu shot for all individuals age 6 months and older. The 2012 seasonal flu vaccine has been developed to protect against three flu strains: H1N1 and two new strains, H3N2 and a B strain. The Fluzone® High-Dose flu shot is available at Kroger as well for those age 65 and older, as its higher dose of antigen is intended to give senior adults who are more susceptible to the flu a stronger immune response after vaccination. The shots take two weeks to reach full effect. Besides in-store visits, Kroger pharmacies are available to provide on-site flu clinics for workplaces and businesses of 25 or more employees across the Triangle. Contact a pharmacist to set up an appointment and receive more information.
“Flu vaccinations not only protect you from becoming ill – they prevent individuals from transmitting the disease to others, including high-risk groups such as children and senior citizens,” said Ouita Davis, staff pharmacist at the Raleigh Kroger. “As a company, we are committed to ensuring that all individuals have the opportunity to receive flu vaccinations this season, assuring that our Triangle community stays healthy and productive throughout the year.”
