Kroger Offers Annual Flu Shots Covered Under Most Insurance Plans And Medicare

Nation’s Largest Grocery Retailer Provides Vaccine For $25 For Individuals Without Insurance, No Appointment Needed

Oct. 8, 2012 - PRLog -- RALEIGH, N.C. – The Kroger Co.  (http://www.kroger.com/), the nation’s largest traditional grocery retailer with 16 stores throughout the Triangle and North Carolina, has announced its offering of flu shots at all Triangle pharmacy locations, which are covered under most insurance plans including Medicare. Individuals without insurance can obtain a vaccination for $25. No appointments are necessary, and all shots are administered by certified pharmacists. North Carolina allows pharmacists to administer flu shots to eligible individuals 14 and older.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends an annual flu shot for all individuals age 6 months and older. The 2012 seasonal flu vaccine has been developed to protect against three flu strains: H1N1 and two new strains, H3N2 and a B strain. The Fluzone® High-Dose flu shot is available at Kroger as well for those age 65 and older, as its higher dose of antigen is intended to give senior adults who are more susceptible to the flu a stronger immune response after vaccination. The shots take two weeks to reach full effect. Besides in-store visits, Kroger pharmacies are available to provide on-site flu clinics for workplaces and businesses of 25 or more employees across the Triangle. Contact a pharmacist to set up an appointment and receive more information.

QUOTES:
