Oct. 5, 2012 - PRLog -- It is said that individuals over the age of 65 are dealing with not just one but two health conditions. People having serious health conditions is becoming more common and leaving individuals to think that they can be easily dealt with at home. These conditions are in fact very serious and should be treated as such. Heart conditions such as high blood pressure, congestive heart failure, coronary artery disease, hypertension, and cardio vascular disease are sometimes under minded because the symptoms are ignored. There are more deaths caused by cardio vascular disease than all cancers combined. A lot of elderly individuals deal with heart attacks with no prior symptoms and unfortunately are leaving themselves at risk to die.

Its scary to think that this is just the tip of the iceberg and that a lot of elderlies are faced to deal with two conditions, not just one. And there are more conditions to be evaluated. Dementia is very common to progress in age. It is suggested that as high as 50 percent of individuals over the age of 85 are faced with dementia or Alzheimer's. Dementia is a very serious condition, it causes individuals to forget simple directions, routines, and familiar places, and worse, it can lead to neglect in their own personal safety. Leaving our loved ones with this condition to care for themselves is very dangerous. About half of elderly people over 60 suffer from incontinence, this condition is common but not normal and should be looked into. It leaves one with the inability to hold their urine or stools, causing leakage or accidents, and for an elderly person to take care of themselves, it could be a lot to handle.

Depression in the elderly affects about 6 million individuals in America alone but only about six hundred thousand are receiving treatment for it due to the fact that the symptoms are ignored or mistaken for side effects of other medications being taken. Diabetes is not only common amongst our nation but it is common amongst the elderly, but with age comes the susceptibility to illness, diabetes in elderly people is harder to detect because symptoms like said earlier are masked due to other medications. Having diabetes means that one would need to alter their daily routine and have some limitations on their daily functions, so they would require some help. There are so many combo conditions that happen amongst the elderly that simply come with age such as vision problems, falling accidents, osteoporosis, breathing problems. Part of aging includes thinning of the bones, skin, which in turn means minor falling accidents can be a big deal for a senior citizen because their bodies aren't as limber as they once were.

Notice that a lot of these conditions are common and of course happen with age, but common does not mean normal. Unfortunately a lot of aging individuals do not want to admit that they require assistance and it shows that too many are making the mistake of thinking that their condition isn't a big deal. These conditions are very serious and should be handles with the most care as possible. Of course the first step is to meet with your doctor and get an educated understanding of how you can care for yourself properly. If these conditions are going to be handled alone at home there should be some precautions to be analyzed prior to doing so. The most affordable and reliable thing for an elderly person facing such conditions and making the decision to care for themselves at home would be a response system in case of an emergency. There are a few people you want to get a hold of in case of a real emergency and what more covenant way is there than a phone call?
