These videos are setup on one of those 4-video sequence pages that you have no doubt seen with other (online) product launches in the past. The template indicates that in the coming days there will be a total of 4 online videos.
In video#2 Dan goes into great, excruiating, detail about major companies that are using direct mail to promote and convert leads into sales.
He cites fact after fact within these examples.
Now also bear in mind that at the end of video#2 Dan gives you the chance to Opt-In for a 29 page .PDF that you can download (once again ONline) where he continues the argument about the power of direct mail.
We are watching hours of ON-line video (with PDF download) that is 'selling us' on the power of direct mail. No doubt there is some whiz-bang direct mail course at the end of these 4 videos. I would also guess that most of the course will also be delivered online.
I will guess that most of the prospects who are watching these videos have limited budgets. Some may even be new to online marketing altogether.
THE COSTS OF MAILING STUFF
As of this writing a first class stamp is .47 cents. Many proponents of direct mail make a point of stressing using first class mail. The late (great) Gary Halbert talked about huddling neighborhood kids togehter at his place to have them stuff envelopes and apply postage for pizza.
But let's look at some costs based on a conservative 5,000 unit mailing:
Postage = $2,350.00
Letterhead/envelopes = $200.00
Labels (mailing lists) = $300.00
TOTAL = $2,850.00 (almost $3,000.00 dollars!)
Let's go on to say that you convert a conservative one percent (.01 ) which equals 50 sales. Now let's pretend that your product costs $50.00.
Congratulations you've just made $2500.00! (Or in other words you only lost $350.00)
Now the hallmark of Dan's approach to direct mail is to continue to send out the same offer to the same list multiple times. In the video he references a 12 step system. But let's say that you only do the same mailing FIVE times.
Postage = $2,350.00 x 5 = $11,750.00
Letterhead/envelopes = $200.00 x 5 = $1,000.00
Labels (mailing lists) = $300.00 x 5 = $1,500.00
New Total = $14,250.00
50 x 5 = 250 x $50 = $12,500.00
Congratulations you've just made $12,500.00! (Or in other words you only lost $1,750.00)
We won't even discuss the time, energy, man-power (you will probably have to pay for help at this level or use an outside mailing service) it took to accommodate these follow-up mailings.
Again, let me repeat: "this is a series of ONLINE videos (with .PDF download) SELLING you on the profit contained in direct mail".
Okay, in all fairness Dan Kennedy does say that the best strategies COMBINE online and OFFline marketing.
But when you do the math the average person trying to figure out how to make money, part-time from home, really won't have the budget to pull off such marketing. (Not to mention the psychological stamina).
I have been saying in these articles that when it comes to making money the methods you are being taught are not necessarily the methods that the teacher/guru is using to make the REAL money.
