Oct. 4, 2012 - PRLog -- Popular American Gastropub Butterfield 8, with locations in Manhattan and Stamford, CT, recently opened its doors in downtown White Plains in September with a spectacular grand opening. The newly constructed restaurant, located at 147 Mamaroneck Avenue on the corner of East Post Road, is launching a new menu created especially for the White Plains restaurant by Executive Chef Matt Safarowic.

Safarowic spent the last 7 years alongside his mentor, James Beard Award Nominee Chef David DiBari, at The Cookery in Dobbs Ferry, NY and prior to that, at Zuppa in Yonkers, NY. He brings to the restaurant in White Plains, DiBari’s influence of turning predictable dishes on their sides to make them spectacular.

For example, Safarowic’s “Dirty Chips” are a step removed from typical nachos – they combine fried potato chips with smoked bacon, bleu cheese fondue, crispy chicken livers, tomatoes and green onions for an unusual but delicious dish. A stuffed meatball will have mozzarella, ricotta and pesto inside. And the requisite pork sandwich is made with pork belly.

“I learned so much by working with Dave all those years, and now, having my own kitchen and free reign to create my own menu is a dream,” said Safarowic. “I am truly excited about what we’ve created at Butterfield 8 and think that White Plains and the greater area will be too when they come in and taste the food.”

Diners will be able to see Safarowic from the open kitchen that is the focal point of the restaurant – it can be seen as soon as one walks into the space and from every table in the dining room. The White Plains restaurant is a split level with the dining room sunken below the bar area. The dining room seats about 80 people at butcher block, walnut finished tables with brown leather tufted booths as seating.

The 80-foot island bar seats about 30 people around and in the area. The White Plains bar is topped in brown marble, which complements the overall décor and feel of the space.

The storefront is comprised of a series of accordion windows, which allows the entire room to be open to the outdoors. In addition to an extensive wine and cocktail selection, Butterfield 8’s bar features 24 tap lines serving a wide variety of domestic and imported beers.

“We’re thrilled to be opening Butterfield 8 in my hometown,” said John Gazzola, owner. “With successful locations in Manhattan and Stamford, we had been searching for the perfect spot to open another outpost here. The feeling here is business professional meets social scene, which we think is an appropriate fit for White Plains.”

Butterfield 8 White Plains is the third outpost of the restaurant, with other locations in Manhattan and Stamford, CT. The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner every day, from 11:30 am-10 pm Sunday-Thursday and 11:30 am- 11 pm Friday-Saturday.
