However the Accord’s bigger news for consumers comes from under the hood. The 2013 model is expected to feature the same 2.4L 4-cylinder engine as its most recent predecessor, however it will get a big upgrade in efficiency from a new CVT (continuously variable transmission). It will also feature a new direct injection system, which is expected to deliver upwards of 181 hp and 177 lb-ft of torque.

Even more exciting, however, is the advent of Honda’s new plug-in hybrid system, which is set debut on the 2013 Accord Sedan. First unveiled at the 2010 Los Angeles Auto Show, Honda’s electric hybrid model will utilize a 2.0L 4-cylinder engine working in tandem with an electric motor capable of 161 hp. The 6 kWh lithium-ion battery will allow drivers to travel upwards of 15 miles using no gasoline at all, and will be rechargeable in less than four hours using only a standard 120V outlet.

A new HondaLink infotainment system will be the centerpiece of the driver experience. Designed to integrate internet social networking, audio streaming, and web-server-based entertainment into the audio hub, HondaLink will allow iPhone and Android users to take advantage of their applications like never before.
