With over 5000 captures from the trip to draw upon, Smith is busy printing, framing and exhibiting the first hand finished limited edition canvases which are now on display in his two upscale galleries.
“I have seen a lot in my travels over the years”, says Smith, “but this time I saw things I would never have believed existed in the natural world”. The florescent grasses that gently dance beneath the crystal clear waters of the Te Waihou river and the sight of the perfectly round Moeraki Boulders lying on the beach in New Zealand. The almost magical stream fed pool and brilliant saturated colours deep within the rainforest of northern Australia. Plus, the vibrant green rice terraces of Indonesia, just to name a few surprises.
As Smith says, “the light in the southern hemisphere is very different than here at home in Canada. I see greens and blues there that last all day. Here, I am lucky if I see them for a few minutes, tops.”
Known for the dynamic, almost 3-D look of his exclusive limited edition canvases, Smith’s works now hang in the homes of his collector’s from all over the world. While gallery wall space is always at a premium, Smith hopes to introduce as many new pieces from this trip as space will permit over the next year.
