Varchasava – The Annual Cultural & Sports festival of IIM Lucknow

Oct. 4, 2012 - PRLog -- It’s that time of the year again when the rigorous academic activities at IIM Lucknow would gel with fun filled sports and cultural activities. Varchasava 2012- the annual cultural & sports festival of IIM Lucknow is here.

The 5th edition of Varchasava will be organised from 5th – 7th October 2012 and will feature more than 60 events with participation from 150+ colleges across India including IIM A, IIM C, IIM I, FMS Delhi, IIM Trichy etc.

Every year, Varchasva brings together the most talented students from across the country. Some popular events are:
•   Samavesh- Classical Night: Live performance by Pt. Abhay Rustum Sopori, India's youngest Santoor player. He has around thirty albums and releases, and has given performances around the world. He won the Ustaad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puruskar in 2006 and was also awarded the Jammu and Kashmir state award in 2011 thus making him the youngest ever recipient of the award.
•   Pronite- Mother Jane: One of the oldest Rock Bands in India, The band which has two No.1 albums & followers in 50 countries, is gaining momentum as one of the 1st international crossover rock acts from Asia. They have won the title of Asia’s No.1 Rock Act by AVIMA(Asia Pacific Voice Independent Music Award) and are Ranked No. 1 in Rock Street Journal's bands of the decade in 2010
•   Sand Art: Kaushik Basu, the famous sand artist from Kolkata, will create marvels with sand.
•   Photography workshop: A great opportunity to learn photography from the experts and win cameras from Sony
•   Ultimate Frisbee: Conducted by professionals from U.S.A and Finland, a chance to learn the hottest new sport around from world class players.
•   Dance workshops: Experts will be teaching 5 contemporary dance forms like salsa, Jive, jazz etc.
•   MTV’s Street Dance competition Inferno: The street dance event presented in association with MTV, giving the participants and winners a chance to feature on MTV
•   Uttarang & Stairway to Hell: Hindi & English band competition. Semi Pro bands will fight it out for prizes worth a lakh from Yamaha
•   JASHN- The Fashion Parade:  Flagship Varchasva Event
•   HallaBol (Street play): Street plays concerning social issues will be held in villages to help create awareness about pressing social problems.
•   Texas Hold’em Poker: Introduced for the first time in IIM L, a chance to win a trip to Goa while acing this classic game of Poker.
•   Gods of Gaming: Online Gaming enthusiasts, fight it out in CS, AoE, NFS, DoTA.
•   Dare or Die: Zip lining, Rappelling, Big Glove Boxing.. An arena to experience these adventure sports & a competition to test one’s mettle- a treasure hunt with the suspense of a reality TV.
•   Informalz: Informalz run for 6 hours every day with events like:
   RJ Hunt: Here’s a chance to become an RJ at RadioCity 91.1 FM. Winner gets to co-host a show on the Radio channel.
   Antakshari- Time to put Bollywood ‘gyaan’ to test.
   Art-a-thon –A marathon art event with 4 art forms in 3 and a half hours will make one realize how creativity and working together under time bound conditions can create a sense of camaraderie and collective innovation!
   Blind Date- Love is in the air! Varchasva gives every Romeo an opportunity to find his Juliet.
   Tug of War- Finally the battle of sexes comes to the playground. Ladies and gentlemen let the war begin!
•   Sports: Students from 17 top notch B-schools from across the country will battle it out for the Varchasva Cup across 15+ sporting events including Cricket, Soccer, Basketball, Snooker, Squash, TT and swimming.
