James Austin, CEO, Vertex Analytics, at High Frequency Trading Leaders Forum 2012 Chicago

Mr. Austin has designed and developed a number of high-end, scalable solutions for proprietary firms. A former chemical engineer, he entered the financial markets approximately 15 years ago as a developer hired by a startup known as Quantitative Analytics. His current firm, Vertex, has the mission to revolutionize futures market data with more powerful performance, fast and flexible implementations and lower costs.
Mr. Austin remained a core part of QA’s development team until 2006 when it was acquired by Thomson Reuters. Over the next few years, he built a thriving practice as an IT consultant, leading the development of market data management solutions for hedge funds, proprietary traders and exchanges.
In his prior role at Lekka Capital Management LLC, he developed the business with his skills and understanding of the commodities markets, which are both technical and fundamental. Mr. Austin holds a BS in Engineering Management from Miami University.
