ArtisTech Media Releases Electro Halloween Dance Track “DJ Death”

Oct. 4, 2012 - PRLog -- Next Gen music label Artistech Media is pleased to release ukulele singer-songwriter Kara Square’s single “DJ Death” on TuneTrack today.  This thumping, electro Halloween dance track tells the story of DJ Death:  a mind controlling DJ monster that invades your head, compels you to dance “the best you’ve danced”, and of course, when the beat ends, “you will die and blood will flow.”  

“DJ Death” was written by Kara Square on her favorite instrument - the ukulele.  The ukulele riff captures the listener from the very beginning!  The song immediately lent itself to video, so Kara enlisted her talented artist friend, Chris Smallwood, to create artwork for her to animate.  This music video was posted on YouTube in October of 2011 under Kara’s pseudonym Mind Map That.  When the music video was posted, Kara shared the vocal, ukulele, and bass stems on ccMixter to encourage remixes of the song.  It was enthusiastically embraced by the international remixing community.  The track has been re-mastered for its official release on October 4, 2012.  The cover art was designed by Joel Frijters from SoundAdvantage and includes Chris Smallwood’s original artwork of the DJ Death character.

“I wanted to write a Halloween song in a similar vein as “Monster Mash” and “Time Warp”… something that would be fun to dance to at a costume party,” Kara shares.  “The idea of a DJ monster that kills its party-goers with the music it plays started forming.  To make sure it stayed silly and good natured, I added instructions for impossible dance steps to the song.  I also wanted to see if a song written on the ukulele could be made into a dance party track, so I composed it with a uke and left it as the main catchy riff.”

Kara Square is a nerd who will write a song about anything. As half of the duo Team Smile and Nod (Look Both Ways Before You Die [2008], Mourning Time [2011], Dust From the Stars [upcoming album release]), she writes personal and political electro folk pop songs. As Mind Map That, she humorously covers topics such as organ donation, fexting (fake texting), cats, coconuts, and poop. Now armed with a ukulele, Kara Square has developed a passion for writing and singing about love, but comedy songs like “DJ Death” continue to make their way out.  Kara Square is currently working on two albums:  a ukulele love song album called Love Songs For Everyone But Especially Uke and a re-mastered collection of her comedy songs called Mind Map That: Humorous Songs from Unmappable Territory.
