The aircraft’s “flight control system power drive units” in the wing sections
transfer power through a series of flexible shafts that rotate to activate linear
actuators to control the flaps and slats through a series of precise operating
positions from full “extend” to full “retract” during flight.

uniquely engineered to transmit the proper amount of torque to the linear
actuators to control the precise position of the slat and flap surfaces especially
during take-off and landing. Extending the flaps and slats increases the wing
surface area generating more lift at low speeds. Retracting them reduces wing
