Oct. 3, 2012 - PRLog -- Beijing, China – The 2012 TongRen Foot and Ankle Symposium, held in Beijing, China, September 14-16, at the Beijing Radegast Lake View Hotel, was host to over 300 orthopedic foot surgeons, the elite foot surgeons of China.

Michael E. Graham, DPM, FACFAS, FAENS, founder of GraMedica® and creator of HyProCure®, presented several lectures during the symposium. Topics included “Pes Planovalgus vs. Talotarsal Displacement,” “Orthotics for Flatfoot,” “Classification of Extra-Osseous TaloTarsal Stabilization Devices” and “The HyProCure® Surgical Technique.”

In addition to various lectures on EOTTS, a cadaver workshop, the first foot cadaver course ever held in China, was hosted to demonstrate the procedure and provide hands-on experience. Approximately 150 specialists were invited to attend. “The room was packed with surgeons, all with their cameras and video cameras, eager for their first foot cadaver course,” said Graham. “It was amazing to be involved in such a ground-breaking event.”

Foot and ankle surgery is an emerging orthopedic specialty in China with a rapidly growing awareness and interest. Chinese physicians were first introduced to HyProCure® at the Sixth International Congress of (the) Chinese Orthopaedic Association (COA) in Beijing, China, December 1 – 4, 2011. Several prominent foot and ankle specialists were impressed by the possibilities HyProCure® offered to help patents improve their quality of life and plans were put in motion to select patients. HyProCure® received SFDA approval (Chinese version of FDA) in 2011. The first EOTTS procedures in China were performed in April of 2012.

The 2012 symposium was a successful educational feat for orthopedic foot surgeons in China. Lectures were also given by Dr. Łukasz Kołodziej of Poland and Dr. Jian Zhong Zhang, M.D., Prof., Director of Foot and Ankle Services, Chief of the Department of Orthopaedics at Beijing Tongren Hospital and Capital Medical University. Dr. Zhang is the leading foot and ankle specialist in all of China and has been working hard to build a greater awareness for the importance of treating foot and ankle pathologies.
