Mother-Baby Friendly Workplace Awards to be Announced at Annual Gala

Oct. 2, 2012 - PRLog -- SAN DIEGO, CALIF. — September 19, 2012 — The Fifth-Annual Liquid Gold Gala is scheduled for Saturday, October 06, 2012 from 6:00 to 10:00 p.m. at Point Loma’s Southwestern Yacht Club. Sponsored by the San Diego County Breastfeeding Coalition (SDCBC), it features an annual awards ceremony to recognize San Diego companies that have instituted comprehensive programs in support of breastfeeding mothers returning to work. The 2012 Breastfeeding Friendly Workplace Awards go to San Diego employers with model lactation programs in place.

Recognizing the importance of breastfeeding for a child’s health, many businesses have successfully implemented support programs. Breastfeeding provides numerous health benefits for both the mother and infant. In San Diego County, 89% of mothers choose to breastfeed their infants and wish to continue to do so after returning to work.

“We applaud these workplaces in supporting families, and in particular, for facilitating breastfeeding of infants after their mothers return to work,” stated Dr. Nancy Wight, Neonatologist and Secretary of the SDCBC. “Mothers who work and breastfeed miss less time from work due to illnesses of their children, and these employers are leaders and serve as role models for other employers in our community.”

The Liquid Gold Gala event includes cocktails, dinner, entertainment and a silent auction at the Southwestern Yacht Club located at 2702 Qualtrough Street, San Diego, California 92106.
