Stamford, CT Startup eBrevia Selected as One of Top Startups In Nation, Will Debut at DEMO 2012

Startup Connecticut DEMO Pitch Competition winner secures one of only four slots at renowned tech, entrepreneur and venture capital event

Oct. 2, 2012 - PRLog -- New Haven, CT – Startup Connecticut today announced that one of the state’s hottest startups, eBrevia, is even hotter now, having been selected as one of only four startups to win an expenses-paid trip to California to present to the world’s top venture capitalists and other investors at DEMO 2012.  eBrevia won the right to represent Connecticut in the competition in a LaunchHaven pitch-off event in early August and then was hand-selected by DEMO from a national competition pool of Startup America members to present at their celebrated pitch event.

“We’re thrilled with this outstanding opportunity and were very impressed by the other companies that competed,” said eBrevia’s Chief Executive Officer Ned Gannon.  “eBrevia’s success is a testament to Connecticut’s strong and growing entrepreneurial ecosystem.  We’ve been able to take advantage of many resources throughout the state, including Connecticut Innovations’ TechStart Fund, UConn’s Innovation Accelerator, Startup Connecticut, LaunchHaven and the Stamford Innovation Center.”

eBrevia is commercializing artificial intelligence technology developed at Columbia University to analyze, extract information from and summarize legal documents.  The company’s natural language processing software uses machine learning techniques to assist law firm attorneys, in-house counsel and business professionals in performing legal tasks more efficiently, accurately and cost effectively.  eBrevia’s co-founders are former corporate attorneys and friends from Harvard Law School that designed the product to address many of the challenges they faced in the document review process.

“DEMO remains the premier launch pad for new information technology products, presenting carefully vetted, market-changing products to an audience of media, investors, early adopters, market thought leaders, corporate acquirers doing M&A work and senior IT buyers from the enterprise,” said Neal Silverman, Senior Vice President, DEMO.  “I look forward to working with the eBrevia team to make DEMO Fall 2012 an extraordinary launch experience for the company.”

The DEMO program is one of many opportunities brought to young companies in the state by Startup Connecticut.  “We’re excited to accelerate Connecticut’s startups onto the national stage through competitions like the Startup America/DEMO 2012 contest,” said Danny Briere, Chief Executive Officer of Startup Connecticut.  “eBrevia joins a list of Connecticut firms that have gotten tremendous global exposure by being a Startup Connecticut participant.  We hope all startups sign up for Startup America at www.s.co to get on our radar here in Connecticut.”

“Ned has been working at the Innovation Center and participating in many of our programs since April,” said Barry Schwimmer, Founder and Managing Partner, Stamford Innovation Center.  “And anyone who talks to Ned knows how passionate he is about the eBrevia offering and how tirelessly focused he is on telling their story to every appropriate audience, from angel groups to juried competitions.  We wish him all the best.”
