Oct. 2, 2012 - PRLog -- More than 80 Denny’s throughout Upstate New York and Arizona will join the fight against pediatric cancer by partnering with Cookies for Kids’ Cancer, an organization committed to helping children who are battling the dreaded disease.

Throughout the month of October, Denny’s will hold its second annual fundraising campaign and aim to raise more than $100,000 through the sale of paper “cookies,” which serve as a symbol of support for the non-profit organization. Diners can purchase a paper cookie for a donation of their choice, with 100 percent of the funds going directly to the organization. Customers may also add their own name or message on the paper cookie before it takes a place of pride on the wall at Denny’s.

Cookies for Kids’ Cancer was founded in 2008 by the mother of a young boy named Liam who was diagnosed with cancer as a toddler. Sadly, Liam lost his battle with the disease last year at the age of six. The organization generates most of its funds each year through bake sales held across the country.

“We have been long-time supporters of Cookies for Kids’ Cancer, purchasing cookies from their bake sales to use as holiday gifts for our staff,” says Glenn Beattie, franchisee of the participating diners. “We were all touched by Liam’s short but significant life and wanted to increase our support of this organization. Denny’s hopes that by introducing our customers to this cause, we can help the organization raise funds needed to make a difference for these brave children.”

Childhood cancer is the leading, non-violent cause of death in children, with one in five patients unsuccessful in having their condition treated. Children in treatment face incredible challenges, most notably risk of infection. In an effort to support the development of new and better treatments for pediatric cancer, Cookies for Kids’ Cancer has pledged to provide funding for researchers.

“We are deeply appreciative of this opportunity to raise funds and awareness for pediatric cancer research,” says Gretchen Witt, founder and director of Cookies for Kids’ Cancer and Liam’s mother. “Denny’s paper cookie event is a tremendous example of the creative ways companies are helping in the search for a cure for childhood cancer.”
