Throughout the month of October, Denny’s will hold its second annual fundraising campaign and aim to raise more than $100,000 through the sale of paper “cookies,”
Cookies for Kids’ Cancer was founded in 2008 by the mother of a young boy named Liam who was diagnosed with cancer as a toddler. Sadly, Liam lost his battle with the disease last year at the age of six. The organization generates most of its funds each year through bake sales held across the country.
“We have been long-time supporters of Cookies for Kids’ Cancer, purchasing cookies from their bake sales to use as holiday gifts for our staff,” says Glenn Beattie, franchisee of the participating diners. “We were all touched by Liam’s short but significant life and wanted to increase our support of this organization. Denny’s hopes that by introducing our customers to this cause, we can help the organization raise funds needed to make a difference for these brave children.”
Childhood cancer is the leading, non-violent cause of death in children, with one in five patients unsuccessful in having their condition treated. Children in treatment face incredible challenges, most notably risk of infection. In an effort to support the development of new and better treatments for pediatric cancer, Cookies for Kids’ Cancer has pledged to provide funding for researchers.
“We are deeply appreciative of this opportunity to raise funds and awareness for pediatric cancer research,” says Gretchen Witt, founder and director of Cookies for Kids’ Cancer and Liam’s mother. “Denny’s paper cookie event is a tremendous example of the creative ways companies are helping in the search for a cure for childhood cancer.”

About Cookies for Kids’ Cancer
Today pediatric cancer remains the number one disease killer of children in the United States, due in large part to a lack of funding for research into new and improved therapies. Through the concept of local bake sales and online cookie sales, Cookies for Kids’ Cancer inspires individuals, organizations, and businesses to join in the fight against pediatric cancer by raising the funds and awareness necessary to change the facts of pediatric cancer and provide more families with the hope they deserve. Thousands of bake sales, raising millions of dollars, have been held in 49 states as well as Puerto Rico, Canada and the United Kingdom. Cookies for Kids’ Cancer grants funds to leading pediatric cancer research facilities including Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, Texas Children’s Cancer Center, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and Dana Farber Cancer Center.
