Follow on Google News | European sales of desktop PCs in businesses continue to slide during July and August 2012Desktop PC sales in Western Europe sold to businesses declined by over ten per cent (-10.3%) during the first two months of Q3 driven by increasing demand for portable devices.
By: Fundamental Communications The decline in PC desktops sales affected all Western European countries, but the top three markets contained the drop to a single digit as Germany declined by -7.5%, France by -5.9%, and the UK by -3.4%. There were weaker performances elsewhere in Europe with Switzerland and Finland both registering declines of more than -20%. UK sales declined by a lesser degree than sales in other countries due to large-enterprise purchases towards the end of Q3 2012. “The decline in desktop PC sales is not just driven by an overall economic situation but by the mobility needs of businesses professionals” While CONTEXT expects the declining sales to continue, leading PC vendors are hopeful that all-in-one desktops launched during the third quarter of the year will prove popular. “HP has added four new all-in-one PCs with Windows 8 to its portfolio", notes Rosina. "All-in-ones take up less space than desktop PCs, are stylish, have come down significantly in price over time and should continue to drive touchscreen adoption in business – an element which will be at the core of Microsoft’s upcoming Windows 8.” Q3 2012 – European figures for PC Desktops through distribution year-on-year available on request.
