Yorkshire Sports Club Takes the Plunge and Wins Top Prize

Oct. 2, 2012 - PRLog -- As Britain continues to bask in the glory of an unprecedented and successful year of sport one local South Yorkshire club is able to further develop after scooping top prize in a competition.

‘Kool Kayakers Canoe Club’ based near Campsall, South Yorkshire, provides recreational canoeing and kayaking tuition and support for male and female paddlers aged seven to 67. After winning £500 in the ‘Summer of Sport’ competition hosted by local house builder, Miller Homes, the club is planning to put the money to very good use!

“We have 80 members who train very hard and are determined to enjoy and perhaps excel at their chosen sport,” commented Kevin Jones, chairman Kool Kayakers Canoe Club. “The whole team was delighted when we discovered we had won and the extra investment will ensure we can develop the team and our facilities further than we had hoped.”

The club was established in 2005 and is entirely run by volunteers. They are based at Askern Leisure Centre and meet each week at the pool to practise. They frequently paddle across the UK and have ventured into Europe too. It plans to spend the money on training for four coaches run by the BCU, four front opening buoyancy aids and four safety helmets.

“The Kool Kayakers are worthy winners of our ‘Summer of Sport’ fund and fought off tough competition for our other entrants,” commented Steve McElroy, sales director, Miller Homes Yorkshire. “The aim of our competition was to recognise the work and time invested by community based sports clubs, recognising that many of our great medal winning sports men and women started their careers in similar clubs across the region. It seemed a fitting way to pay tribute to a year which as delighted us all with such amazing sporting achievements and will allow us to support our sports stars of the future.”
