Oct. 2, 2012 - PRLog -- Coinciding with American Craft Week, the American Ceramic Society – Design Chapter Presents the 2012 Clay Festival and Gift Show
October 13 and 14, 2012 at the Los Angeles County Arboretum and Garden

The American Ceramic Society – Design Chapter (ACS-DC) will host a Clay Festival and Gift Show at Los Angeles County (LAC) Arboretum’s Ayres Hall, October 13 and 14.  The festival is  Saturday, 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and, Sunday, 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. This event coincides with the end of the American Craft Week, nationally recognized as October 5-14.

At this festival are one-of-a-kind, handcrafted items for purchase by the participating artists representing all of Southern California (you can’t get more American Made, than this).  Featured ceramic artists, Frank Matranga and Sierra Pecheur will demonstrate their artistry and craft on Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to noon and 1 – 2 p.m.  In addition to the ceramics arts, we have invited some of Southern California’s best painters to join us and display their original works at our Gift Show.

American Craft Week, now in its third year, is the annual coast-to-coast recognition of the makers, retailers, collectors and exhibitors of handmade craft. “We’re passionate about the exceptional value, enduring quality and cultural significance of handmade American craft,” says Diane Sulg, co-chair of the campaign. “In a society filled with machine-made things, we need to support the talented and dedicated people who create decorative and useful goods by hand.”

•   It’s COOL to buy American!
•   The American Craft Movement is all about Tradition and the Future
•   Good design, high quality materials and excellent craftsmanship mean more than ever
•   The American Craft Movement supports small business and creates jobs
•   American Craft beautifies our homes, public spaces and everyday life
•   American Craft enriches our communities and educates our children.

Public awareness of the local crafts scene helps sustain jobs for artists and their businesses. There is a local return on that investment: in many towns, the arts help promote economic development and tourism.

A portion of the sales of the Clay Festival will support the LAC Arboretum and Garden and the ACS-DC education and scholarship fund.

The LAC Arboretum and Garden charges an entry fee of $8 for adults, $6 for seniors and students, and $3 for children from 5-12.  Younger children are admitted free.  The LAC Arboretum is located at 301 N. Baldwin Avenue, Arcadia, CA 91007 and may be contacted at (626) 821-3222 or http://www.arboretum.org.  Parking is free.  Enjoy our Gift Show and spend the rest of your day visiting the lovely gardens of the Arboretum.

The American Ceramic Society - Design Chapter of Southern California, established in 1945, is a 501(c)3 organization comprised of potters, sculptors, teachers, students and ceramic designers who seek to share and increase their knowledge and expand public awareness and appreciation of the many facets of clay.
