Oct. 2, 2012 - PRLog -- Eligibility Coach will sponsor a FREE Teleseminar Tuesday, October 9, 2012, at 7 pm EST that will explain the A, B, C’s of Athletic $cholarship Eligibility Certification to parents and high school coaches of prospective collegiate student-athletes. High school student-athletes who do not successfully complete all of the steps of the eligibility certification process cannot receive an athletic scholarship in their first year of college, leaving their parents to finance all of the costs for the freshman year.

The National Collegiate Athletic Association [NCAA] increased its academic standards for the high school class of 2016 to be eligible to receive college athletic scholarships. In her article Eligibility vs academic preparedness for ESPN.com, Dana O’Neil revealed that 15.3 percent of high school student-athletes would not be eligible to receive athletic scholarships if they were required to meet the new academic standards. In the sports of football and men’s basketball, the percentages rise to 35.2 and 43.1 percent respectfully.

“The ESPN.com academic article series is so timely because so many parents aren’t prepared for the effects of the new NCAA initial eligibility legislation. This teleseminar will explain the three processes that must be completed simultaneously in order to receive an athletic scholarship offer,” said Marlynn R. Jones, Esquire, President of Eligibility Coach. “It will also explain the difference between college admissions and eligibility certification.”

“When it’s possible for one-third of high school football players, and almost half of high school men’s basketball players to not be eligible for college athletic scholarships, the education efforts for parents and high school coaches has to increase and Eligibility Coach is sponsoring these free teleseminars in an effort to help do our part in assisting proactive parents in navigating this important process.” Jones added.

For those interested in investing an hour of time for some valuable information on how to qualify for college athletic scholarships, registration is available at http://www.eligibilitycoach.com.

“While the teleseminar is aimed at parents of high school student-athletes, with the new academic rules, middle school parents can benefit from this information as well. High school coaches and guidance counselors are also encouraged to join the teleseminar.” Jones said
