The firm will be led by Richard M. Goldberg, who will serve as Managing Partner. Most recently, he held the position of Senior Vice President of Public Affairs and Communications at DRS Technologies, a $3.5 billion defense and security company. He was responsible for managing public relations, advertising, media relations and corporate branding in a highly competitive market. In addition, he had oversight of tradeshows, the corporate websites and new media development for the company.
Prior to joining DRS, Goldberg spent 15 years in the not-for-profit sector, leading several state, national and international trade associations representing the high-tech, import/export, and broad based business sectors. His accomplishments include building influential government relations programs, increasing membership and program revenue, and motivating and energizing boards of directors.
Joining Goldberg, is Mark Garrell, who will serve as Partner, Washington Operations. Garrell will leverage his long-standing relationships with key decision makers and their staffs to successfully represent the issues important to the firm’s clients, increasing their visibility in any branches of the federal government.
Recently, Garrell served as Senior Vice President, Government Affairs and Director of Washington Operations for Force Protection, a top military vehicle manufacturer supporting America and its allies. He was responsible for all legislative interaction with Capitol Hill and the company’s primary liaison for the Pentagon. Prior to his role at Force Protection, Garrell was Vice President of Government Affairs at DRS Technologies.
Mark Garrell is a decorated veteran, with 22 years of military service with the United States Army, achieving the rank of colonel. He served as Senior Legislative Coordinator for Appropriations, Army Budget Congressional Liaison, in the Office of the Secretary of the Army for Financial Management and Comptroller in his last Pentagon assignment.
The firm will immediately begin offering support services in all areas of internal and external communications, brand and identity growth plans, and government relations and issue advocacy.
“The current economy presents Mark and I with an opportunity to help companies and non-profits that have been forced to reduce their headcount, as well as their funding of marketing, branding and public affairs initiatives. Our experience in developing achievable goals and implementing innovative cost-effective solutions will be critical in achieving successful outcomes for our clients,” said Goldberg.
In this new role, Garrell stated, “Washington is prepared to make deep cuts in budget areas historically considered safe. Companies need to ensure that their issues and positions are clearly communicated to all related areas of government that can impact them. As corporate budgets are cut, some companies will rely on their coalitions and trade associations to be their voice, and R2 Associates can support those organizations by developing strategic government contact programs that leverage their strength in numbers.”
R2 Associates is committed to providing the highest level of service, in an ethical manner that is focused on finding solutions to the specific challenges facing their clients. The firm has also made a commitment to help those who have served their country, especially wounded warriors and homeless veterans. The firm will split 5% of its annual profits between the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund and Community Hope for Veterans.
