The Las Vegas Boy Scouts - shaped from scouts of various school backgrounds within the Las Vegas area, these scouts felt sustaining lifelong friendships was more essential and formed a versatile new council for the hispanic outreach.

Many members of the council have received advanced management training that is on level with Disney coaching, believe it or not, and is utilizing the ideas learned to aid progress within the council and the troops they govern. This training is allowing them to move into the age of technology.

"We are developing a program internally so that other boy scout troops will gain from it. Early in to the BSA program I mentioned that a lot of the conferences were focused on routine paperwork that kept very little ingenuity, and was comprised mainly of duplicating and recopying notes to write up choices, and form duty rosters. While I was motivated by the cooperation and skills being realized, I was somewhat bothered by the ineffectiveness of using century old techniques."

"While the Boy Scouts of America wants the kids to interact in designated patrols using a tried and true process, it's also tried to integrate contemporary characteristics and perceptions in having the boys shine in authority tasks. What I learned was that there was one crucial variable missing: technology."

The troop has a personal machine with fun applications that the scouts can control. The Las Vegas Boy Scouts (http://www.lasvegasboyscouts.com/) more routine paperwork is today produced online in conventional word processing applications, spreadsheets, illustration modules and picture editors. Everyone's own computer can be used by each scout to ask concerns, create notes and take action.

The scouts can add and discuss records, modify them, and post for the others to examine. There is private e-mail, but beyond these principles are more complex things - the scouts have live interactive personal chat where several conversations may happen concurrently. They have an active diary with auto updates so they may reveal thoughts, make provisional plans, and acquire input from the grownups for performance and feasibility.

Scouts within the Las Vegas Boy Scouts have picture webpages, a message forum with infinite issues, and most of the technical resources that could rival most offices at conferences. The scouts can make presentations, play physical games, and do these things which need physical presence. If a troop meeting is missed by a scout they may catch up on the web by studying the forums.

There are other hidden advantages to instructing the scouts to function and complete administrative items on line - they get to experience working in distant workgroups. Most organizations now have staff operating from tables in very specific places, sharing records, tips and collaborating via telephone conferences and more.

Working online also assists with behavior problems. Some scouts cannot sit in troop meetings for one hour at a period without fidgeting. We need these scouts to be equipped for what lies ahead, and that's not sitting in the exact same table every day and week recopying notes in the longhand.
