Oct. 1, 2012 - PRLog -- New Song is Based on H.P. Lovecraft Story “The Music of Erich Zann”

October 2nd, 2012, Rockford, IL – With Halloween coming and spooky sounds on the minds of many, G.W. Hill has released (on September 29th) a brand new song that is designed to frighten and chill. The cut is based on the H.P. Lovecraft story “The Music of Erich Zann.” While the song is currently available exclusively in digital format, it is the first song from the new album currently being created by Hill. Until that release, “The Music of Erich Zann” can be purchased (for just 89 cents) exclusively at http://www.amazon.com/The-Music-of-Erich-Zann/dp/B009IQ5WOG/ref=sr_shvl_album_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1348885795&sr=301-3. Given the intent and the sound of the track, it seems well suited for Halloween parties, spooky themed radio shows or even playing at haunted houses and other fright related events.
Jason Hillenburg said this of the song in the current issue of Music Street Journal: “The track is a pulsing swirl of ambient sound. Hill's voice, when heard, rises out of the noise like a survivor of some great struggle, his words distorted, straining against the sound but never attaining clarity. Despite the stripped down structure, the soundscape, taken as a whole, does an excellent job of capturing some of the foreboding mystery surrounding the best of Lovecraft's fiction. This is an intelligent piece and, obviously, a labor of love.”

“The Music of Erich Zann” is the first single from a new album that is currently in the writing and recording phases. A version without any vocals will be appearing on a new compilation disc due out this fall. The version of the song currently released will be the one appearing on the next album. Until that disc is released, though, it will be strictly digital and available only at Amazon.com.

H.P. Lovecraft’s dark tale entitled “The Music of Erich Zann” showcased a viol player who creates mad music at night, in an effort to fight back unknown alien forces seeking entry into our world. Hill’s music seeks to create that battle with a viol sounding part set in contrast to an eerie frightening monstrous sound that gradually gains a greater foothold. All this is presented over the top of storm sounds and other effects. Hill recites a few lines of the story in a rather detached and unemotional spoken vocal delivery.

G. W. Hill began playing music at age 15, starting on bass guitar. In addition to performing music, Hill is a published author (The Strange Sound of Cthulhu: Music Inspired by the Writing of H. P. Lovecraft and Strange Realities: The Collected Short Stories of Gary Hill) and a music journalist.  G. W. Hill lives in the Rockford, Illinois area.
