We pulled up to a giant inflatable dog on the corner dwarfing anything in his path. The park lawn was scattered with dogs playing and children joining them. The warm weather didn't exactly feel like Fall, but the availability of ice cream, snow cones and cold doggy treats kept everyone with a smile on their face.
From tiny Yorkies to massive Great Danes and everything in between, there was something for every dog lover. One idea we thought was very interesting was the Gormet Mutt Trucks Sit and Stay Cafe, a sort of doggy treat 'food truck'. According to the Sit and Stay Cafe owners, "All treats are deliciously made from scratch with locally sourced (when possible), all-natural and organic ingredients, offering your best friends the best treats around. Even the packaging is biodegradable!"
Midway through the day, various dogs and owners took center stage to perform 'Doggy Musical chairs'. Several hoola-hoops were laid out as the 'chairs', and music played while the owners walks circles around the hoops; the last dog outside of a hoop when the music stops is the looser. Commence a super fun display of competitive owners and their sometimes obedient dogs all vying for a position on the leader board. At one point, there was a disqualification for one pup who must have thought this was his daily walk in the park, a quick cleanup with a doggy bag and the contest resumed.
All in all, Barktoberfest was a huge success for Downtown Orlando. Many dogs were adopted and rescued right there at the event. From kids bouncing in bounce houses to fun and interactive entertainment, the D.J.'s and organizers of this event had something for everyone and brought a great positive vibe to Lake Eola. We will be looking forward to next years Barktoberfest and hope that you will be able to see it for yourself next time. We will be posting photo's of the event on our BetterBreederBureau.com YouTube channel, check them out and let us know what you think.
