While the décor and layout of Image Studios’ three Salt Lake County locations exude modern brilliance and inspiration, it’s the fundamental design and concept of a sustainable business platform that have pushed entrepreneur Jason Olsen to expand with three new salons – Draper, Salt Lake City and Sandy – in the last three years.
Image Studios has carved a new niche in the traditional salon industry by creating affordable salon suites that are leased to hair and body-care professionals who wish to run their own business. Cutting edge marketing, design work, business start-up information and a network of inspired, creative and committed colleagues combine to ensure success on all levels.
Olsen’s three core values – creativity, freedom and success – are the heart of Image Studios’ design. Independent small-business owners have the freedom to dictate their own schedule, clientele and atmosphere. The end result – and a common theme among Image Studios’ professionals – are increased profits, more fun at work and more time with family.
A NEW BUSINESS MODEL
Traditional salons operate typically under one of three platforms: booth rental, commission or team-based pay. In either scenario, hair stylists, massage therapists, design consultants and estheticians are plugged into someone else’s business model, concept and fee structure.
At Image Studios, the same professionals create their own space, business model and manage their own schedule. Olsen and Image Studios provide a host of business start-up tools including information on how to file for a business license, tax forms, credit card processing and more. Seminars aimed at increasing profits and productivity are hosted quarterly and free of charge for all salon-suite tenants. Past topics have included business marketing, customer service and a seminar aptly named, “Do you run your business or does your business run you?”
“Their success is a measure of our success,” Olsen said.
Esthetician Amber DeVoge moved to Image Studios seven months ago and has watched her profits and clientele grow steadily. She is inspired by her work environment and the creativity of those around her. DeVoge says Olsen’s efforts to help her succeed make all the difference.
“You wont find that anywhere. No other business does that.”
Hairstylist Jared Gomez has watched his business explode since joining the team at Image Studios. Having earned his stripes on the runways of New York and again in Salt Lake City building a multi-chair salon from the ground up, Gomez said Image Studios is the right, and only, fit for him.
“It’s nobody else’s vision but my own and so different than anything anyone else is doing.”
Peggy Aagard, a hair and color specialist, formally trained as an national Aveda educator, said she thought she had the job of a lifetime – until she started her own salon at Image Studios.
“I had no idea I was so unhappy until I found this new opportunity,”
"I easily make twice as much working about one-third the time as I did in a traditional salon," Aagard said. “Not one day has felt like a job. There’s a sense of community here and yet you can dictate everything that goes on in your own space. It’s the best of both worlds.”
All agree that the core of Image Studios success is the cohesive business concept designed, built and implemented by Olsen -- a platform of support that encourages personal success and sustainability for the salon and the professionals who work there.
