Race Reveiw - Walk to Defeat ALS

Because You Can… That was today’s theme at the 4th annual Walk to Defeat ALS in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. I labeled this article as a race review because that is exactly what the event is, a race to defeat ALS.
 
Oct. 1, 2012 - PRLog -- I have some very close and recent experience with ALS as my father passed away earlier this year after a long and hard fought struggle.  For those not familiar with ALS it stands for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis and is often referred to as “Lou Gehrig’s Disease”.  ALS is a progressive neurodegenerative disease with no known cure.  The nerves that are affected by ALS are the motor neurons that control voluntary movements and muscle power.  The result of ALS is a slow and unstoppable deterioration of voluntary muscles within your body.

The Walk to Defeat ALS is held to raise money for Care Services, Research, and Advocacy and Public Policy.  This was the first year that my family and I attended the event and I can truly say it was very well done.

The event was held at the Veterans Memorial Stadium near downtown Cedar Rapids.  The weather was perfect and it was great to see so many out to support this terrible disease.
