Oct. 2, 2012 - PRLog -- Peachtree Corners, Georgia –James Madison High School (http://www.jmhs.com/) announced the introduction of a dedicated group within its online community to provide social and academic resources for students enrolled in an online high school diploma program. The group currently serves over 38,000 members (September 2012).

Part of the JMHS virtual campus, the community was conceived to be an essential component of the online high school learning experience. The community is also the gateway into a personal student portal where students are able to access their accounts, lessons and tests.

“After a student enrolls, we encourage them to join the online high school community right away,” said Dr. Leslie Gargiulo, Chief Education Officer for James Madison High School. “Our research indicates that the more active a student is in the student community, the more likely they will be motivated, earn better grades and graduate sooner.”

Dr. Gargiulo went on to explain that within the community students can interact with faculty and tutors, connect with classmates, discuss lessons, form study groups, participate in polls, write blogs, participate in online discussions and more. The more popular community topics range from introductions among other community members and current events to academic discussions and assistance.

James Madison students also have full access to the Ashworth community groups where they can research career fields they might want to pursue professionally and/or academically. Ashworth College is the parent school for JMHS and there are nearly 130,000 members across both community groups.

On community member, “Robwill”, who completed the American History course recently posted: “I really learned a lot about US History and found that I was able to answer all the questions on the practice SAT Subject Test for US History. The course is packed with a ton of information. You have to make the effort in order to score an A or B – it’s very comprehensive, so common sense & prior knowledge won't help you here.”
