Tejas Office Products Celebrates Its Golden Anniversary

Sept. 28, 2012 - PRLog -- Tejas Office Products, a family-run, quality office supplies company, and active contributor to the local community, will celebrate its 50th anniversary on September 30, 2012. Founded in 1962 by Lupe and Irene Fraga, the Hispanic owned and operated company has grown to become the largest independent office products supplier as well as one of the city’s oldest and largest Hispanic owned businesses in the Houston area.

“Irene and I are more proud today than when we first opened our doors in Houston 50 years ago,” said founder Lupe Fraga. “Ours is truly a labor of love with the entire family present. We attribute our success and longevity to our loyal customers and devoted employees. We consider both to be members of this family-run business.”

The company’s 25,999-square-foot warehouse in the Heights is a far cry from the small office space Lupe and Irene Fraga originally purchased in the sixties. At present, the company has 52 employees, some of whom have worked alongside the Fragas for 25 years. United, they’ve aligned goals and actively worked to propel the company to new heights and expand the family legacy to the next frontier. That new frontier is their children: son Stephen Fraga and daughters Michele R. Fraga and Alisa Fraga-Kautzmann, all of whom manage the business.

The generosity of Lupe Fraga is widespread in the community and has resulted in numerous awards, including recognition by the Center for Houston’s Future for a lifetime of creating a better community.  His compassion has clearly trickled down to his children. “Our philosophy has always been to give back to the community and I believe we have made great strides in maintaining and achieving our mission but our work is not done,” said Tejas Office Products president Stephen M. Fraga. “Our executive team has made it a point to actively participate in the community and that includes everything from the regional school supply drive to sponsoring the Steps for Students 5K to helping minority-owned businesses grow.”

Successes have been many over the past half-century for the Houston-based business. The company has accumulated a myriad of awards, most recently the State of Texas Business Award.
