Keep your dog safe on the most dangerous holiday of the year for dogs with guidelines from Bark Busters Tucson.

Tucson AZ. -- Keeping our dogs safe on Halloween—the most dangerous holiday for dogs—with tips from Bark Busters, the world’s largest dog training company. Based on the expertise of Bark Busters’ network of dog behavioral therapists, who have successfully trained over 750,000 dogs worldwide, these guidelines for dog owners help ensure the safety of pets during fright night, a
spooky holiday for dogs, too.
By being more sensitive to dogs’ fear-driven ‘fight or flight’ instincts, we can help keep our furry friends safe this Halloween.”

Bark Busters offers Halloween safety tips for families with dogs. Halloween can be a very scary time for dogs and a most dangerous one! Bark Busters has these tips for you and your dog’s safety:
♦ Keep your dog restrained! If your dog is timid or scared or loves people a bit too much, put him/her in a contained room, away from the front door. Be sure to leave food and water and a few favorite toys with them to feel safe.
♦ Keep your dog indoors, even if you have a fenced in yard. They can be easily frightened by costumes, remember, your dog’s instinct is to protect YOU from strangers!
♦ Let your dog get used to costumes. Your dog loves your family members, but in costume, they are strangers. Also, a few days before Halloween, practice knocking on the door or ring the door bell and say “Trick or Treat”. This will get him/her to understand and expect what will be happening.
♦ See if your dog likes to wear a costume. They usually don‘t like to be dressed up so, if they resist..Don’t. Remember if you do go out with your dog, bring a flash light and extra bags for any clean-up. A few treats in your pocket can also go a long way!
♦ You must be in control of the dog at all times! Dogs don’t understand that costume strangers are not there to hurt you. They may act aggressively to protect you.
♦ Be sure your dog is properly tagged with name and contact numbers and a rabies tag.  If your  dog is micro-chipped, have that number and your veterianian’s contact information in a safe place. Also have a “doggie first aid kit” on hand. Things to include are: gauze bandages, baster bulb to extract fluids, blankets, wet wipes, saline solution, water, pepto-bismal.
♦ CANDY!!! DANGER!! WRAPPERS!! CHOCOLATE!!♦
Chocolate is posionous to dogs! Do not let them near the candy bowl or the candy your  little ones come home with. Also, be aware of any wrappers on the floor or outside. You don’t want to go the the Vet. ER in the middle of the night to have a blockage surgically taken care of.

Don’t allow  your dog around lighted candels! Those wagging tails are a danger and can easily knock over a candle or pumpkin. Use a battery powered candle instead.
