Sep. 27, 2012 - Waukesha, WI – The Wisconsin Philharmonic presents its first concert of historic 65th Anniversary Season, Corigliano & Elgar, Tuesday, October 9, 7:30pm at the Oconomowoc Arts Center. Highlighting the program is the world premiere of Academy-Award winning composer John Corigliano’s
Sonata for Violin and Orchestra, orchestrated from his 1963 Sonata for Violin and Piano by Dr. Martin Kennedy. All are invited to arrive at 6:30pm for a pre-concert discussion of the new work, led by Alexander Platt and Dr. Kennedy.
Violinist Lara St. John of London, Ontario joins The Philharmonic for the first time since January 2009 to premiere Corigliano’s Sonata. In addition, the concert’s second half features Sir Edward Elgar’s widely recognized
Enigma Variations.
The Wisconsin Philharmonic thanks its generous concert sponsor, the Harken Family Foundation as well as Arts Waukesha for sponsoring the premiere of Sonata for Violin and Orchestra. Ms. St. John’s performance is sponsored in part by a grant from the Hess & Helyn Kline Foundation.
