So, what are HSPF and SEER?
The heating season performance factor (HSPF) divides the total space heating required during the heating season by the total electrical energy used by the system during the same season. The HSPF number is indicative of the rating of both the efficiency of the compressor and the electrical-resistance elements. To qualify for the ENERGY STAR® label, a heat pump must have an HSPF of 7 or greater.

SEER, or the seasonal energy efficiency ration, is the total heat removed from the conditioned space during the cooling season divided by total electrical energy used by the heat pump during the same season. The SEER number indicates the rating of a heat pump’s efficiency.  A SEER of at least 12 is required to garner the ENERGY STAR® label.

According to energystar.gov, ENERGY STAR qualified heat pumps are about 9% more efficient than standard new models and 20% more efficient than what you may have in your home.

Not only does the Evolution® Extreme Series heat pump deliver optimum efficiency, it’s also equipped with features such as a control board for enhanced diagnostics that make installation and service easier. In fact, only two communication wires are needed from an Evolution gas furnace or fan coil to the outdoor unit for variable-speed functionality.
