Smartphones are gaining popularity as the mobile phone of choice for many Tanzanians who seek multifunctional handsets for everyday use to keep in touch with their loved ones and business associates. Tigo has observed a growing preference for BlackBerrys, Android phones and iPhones amongst its customers and that is why they have created specialized smartcards for these three types of mobile phones.
“Following the successful launch of our new Internet packages, we are introducing a new innovation, smartcards to the Tanzanian market, which are available to both our current and new customers,” said Alice Maro, Tigo Public Relations Officer. “Each smartphone has specific needs, and that is why we have designed smartcards tailored to cater for these needs,” she said.
The smartcards can easily be purchased from any Tigo shop around the country. Customers would need to top-up their lines with Tsh 30,000 and dial the network code *148*01#. After activation, smartcard customers would then be entitled to unlimited Internet for 30 days on their smartphones, as well as Tsh 30,000 worth of airtime, valid for 30 days, to call or SMS all networks inside and outside of the country all day long. In addition to this, smartcard customers will have access to an exclusive online smartcard community. As members of the smartcard community, smartcard customers will be able to interact with other members, be updated on the latest news on new products that are relevant to them and stand chances to win great prizes throughout this and next year, through live draws conducted on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis. To join the smartcard community, smartcard customers would need to visit www.tigo.co.tz/
By registering in this smartcard community, smartcard customers will put themselves in the running to win dinners for two, mobile phones, local trips within Tanzania, live screenings to games in Tanzania and an all-expense paid trip to Dubai. Football fans will have an opportunity to win an all-expense paid trip to Madrid to watch Real Madrid play Barcelona, or an all-expense paid trip to London to watch Arsenal play Manchester United.
