Sept. 26, 2012 - PRLog -- The foundation is hosting its third annual fundraiser "Shooting for the Stars" on Saturday, Oct. 20, 2012, 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. at Jet Runway Cafe at the Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport, 5540 Northwest 21st Terrace, Fort Lauderdale, 33309.

Overlooking the jet runway, the CFKF students will present their fine art photography in a live auction. The event also includes an abundant silent auction, savory tastings, musical entertainment and a dynamic fashion show produced by Lilac And Lilies Boutique.

Co-chaired this year by CFKF founder and CEO Betsey Chesler and volunteer photography teacher Kara Starzyk, the event will help raise funds for photographic supplies and teaching materials in order to continue expanding the program to underprivileged children worldwide.

Cameras For Kids Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that began in South Florida in 2009 and has been established in Atlanta, New York, Los Angeles and Chicago. Betsey Chesler founded CFKF after returning from a trip to South Africa where she spent a month volunteering with orphans.

"It became clear to me that there are far too many children in the world living without parents. I saw firsthand how empty children can become when they lack hope, love, trust and security,” Chesler said. “I decided to provide a therapeutic and creative program that teaches these children the art of photography. When we place a camera in the hands of an enthusiastic and deserving child, their faces light up. With the camera, they learn techniques to create beauty and express themselves.”

At the end of the photography course, each student selects their favorite image, which is printed large on professional photographic paper for the students to take pride in signing their works.

“I like taking pictures of animals and colorful landscapes. In class, I learned about lighting and where to place objects in the picture. I want to continue taking pictures because it is fun, and I can express myself through photography,” said Justine, 13, a foster child a SOS Children’s Village in Coconut Creek, FL.

A gracious thank you to event sponsors including Jet Runway Cafe, Silver Lining Inflight Catering, Lilac And Lilies Boutique, Ted Gibson Salon Fort Lauderdale, Jerry’s Artarama, 9542Design.com, Gold Coast Magazine, Bogle Wines, Proximo Spirits.
