Powering the 2013 Dodge Dart is the latest iteration of the Tigershark engine. This is a successor to the “World Gas Engine,” and is available in three editions: a 160-hp 1.4L turbocharged MultiAir I-4, a 160-hp 2.0L I-4, and a 184-hp 2.4L MultiAir I-4. As a more balanced engine than its predecessor, it’s available in both VVT and MultiAir versions — the VVT system sacrifices a small amount of horsepower to achieve better fuel-efficiency, but still offers an engaging experience on the road.
The new Tigershark models provide a quieter ride than the old World Gas Engine, too, thanks in large part to an isolated valve cover, damped oil pan, select-fit parts, and flow control valve intake manifold. Since the bell housing is designed to have a tighter connection to the transmission than usual, it should prevent the kind of oil leaks that tend to become common in higher-mileage engines.
Of course, the 2013 Dart’s interior lives up to the standard established by the new engines. It has a fluid, ergonomic interior that’s designed to be as convenient as it is eye-catching. Soft-touch surfaces, accent stitching on both the dash and the seats, and interior space that competes with many mid-sized sedans all drive this point home. It’s also got in-seat storage — a feature that isn’t available on any other vehicle in its class. With over 100,000 ways to personalize the new Dart, it’s obvious that this is a truly special vehicle.
