It is not the rising sun, or the mountain top or the flowing waters of a river or the drizzle that enable your good moods. It is YOU who creates your good moods. It is not nature nor people who create your ‘treasured moments’. It is YOU who creates your treasured moments. And you do it through your imagination.
Even when you are in the middle of a snarling traffic jam, you can imagine you are on the top of the snow clad Himalayas. You can imagine you are with the historic Shivaji Maharaj. You can imagine you are in your favorite restaurant surrounded by close friends. And you can feel great about yourself and your life.
You can see an old man attempting to get into the bus. The rush and insensitivity of other able bodied travelers wanting to get into the same bus resulted in pushing and jostling. The old man stood no chance to get into the bus. The helplessness on his face and the inconsiderate behavior of others at the bus stand, may be brushed off with a wave of your hands as you remain untouched. At the same time, the same event might lead to a trigger of thoughts.
You might imagine what his life is like. You might imagine what your life will be like, at his age. You might want to imagine you living a much better and easier life than that old man. You might realise you need to take certain decisions about health, savings, relationships right now to enable you to live life like that.
Wow ! You just connected with a more meaningful part of you. You connected to something deeper within you. You imagined what is important to you and this is important. Your imagination lead to you making value based correct choices and put your life in the right direction. All of this because you imagined positively, If, here, you were negative, what would you have imagined? In the process, would you feel bad? Or, good?
Do you use your imagination as much as you should? Do you realise it is the most important tool that you possess? Do you use your imagination in a way that creates your life, that motivates you to be more, that strengthens your resolve, that fires you up, that makes you go through the present challenges with a smile, that makes you look ahead to life, that helps you to take crucial and difficult decisions, do you?
Find some time today. Let your imagination take a walk, maybe fly.
Here, let me help you. Lets do an exercise in ‘imagination’
Imagine, after a day of fulfilling work, you came home at night to find two people waiting for you. Both of them are very well known to you. Both of them are your close friends. You work with both of them. You trust them totally.
One is a doctor and the other is a lawyer. The doctor is looking distraught. The lawyer is barely able to conceal his excitement.
The lawyer reveals you have inherited crores of rupees. You will never ever have to work again. As of now, you are super duper rich.
The doctor reveals you have a terminal illness. You have a few more years to live.
Imagine, what will you now do with your life?
This exercise of imagination might be a little uncomfortable for you. However, this is what you truly need to connect with your deep inner core. This will help you to understand what are the things that you really value. It will make you realise, deep inside, are you happy with the way you are living your life or do you need to make certain changes.
This exercise of imagination will disarm your ego and make it worthless. This will make you understand who you are, what you want, where you stand and what are the options you have today.
This will make you understand what should you do with your time. Should you meet a few more clients chasing more work or should you watch a few more hours of TV or should you be with people who matter to you?
It will make you understand if you are properly utilizing your time.
Don’t you think, now and then, we should disconnect from routine life, ‘imagine’, and connect with ourselves?
What are you waiting for?
